24 Hours in Sedona
If you’re anything like me the mere thought of another walk/run in your local park, baking yet another banana bread, or doing another DIY project makes you want to pull your hair out... I had been growing tired of my quarantine routine so I decided to hop on a flight to Phoenix. The plan was to visit my favorite cousin for our 2nd annual “Cousin-cation”. (You can read all about how our 1st Cousin-cation ended last year😑🙃)
Travel
I flew into Phoenix International on Friday and Saturday morning we started our road trip to Sedona. (Check out my blog post detailing changes to travel due to COVID.) The drive to Sedona was probably the most scenic ride through the mountains I have ever taken. Sedona is definitely a hidden gem!
The total drive time was about two hours. Our main goal was to cram as many winery tours possible into 24-hours and to complete a hike up the infamous red rock mountains. We visited 4 wineries and hiked the Cathedral rock trail.
Wineries
Our first stop was Javelina Leap Winery
The tasting room was small with a real homey feel to it. This vineyard was great for kids and families because of the huge outdoor picnic style space and games. This vineyard harvests the following varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Tempranillo, Sangiovese and Barbera. We picked 3 different red wines and one rose for our tasting.
2nd stop was Oak Creek
The tasting room itself was closed at this winery, but the patio was huge, and the vineyard’s backdrop was beautiful. We enjoyed a white wine flight and an in-house wine cocktail at this winery.
3rd stop was DA Ranch
This was my favorite winery! The grounds were huge yet inviting and the tasting room was a beautiful ranch style home. The ambiance was perfect, and the views of the mountains were breathtaking. There was so much to explore at this location and it didn’t hurt that they had the best tasting mixed-wine flight, best photo op locations AND the wine glass was included in the flight as a keepsake.
Final Stop: Page Spring Cellars
I know what you’re thinking but, yes…we visited 4 wineries in one day! We saved this one for last because it stayed opened until 9pm. This winery had a large indoor tasting room and a large two-story patio area. It was late in the evening when we arrived so I couldn’t really attest to the beauty of the views, but the charcuterie board was amazinggg! This winery had the best red wine flight and they also allowed us to take the wine glasses as a parting gift…so of course ya girl left with a few in her purse😉
Hiking
The next morning after checking-out of the Poco Diablo Resort we went for a hike at Cathedral Rock. This was my first time hiking so I really didn’t know what to expect. Although it was a moderate one-mile trail there were some very challenging parts to this hike. I’m talking Spiderman crawling to get you the top and scoot on all fours to get down LOL. However, the view from the top was completely worth it and I definitely left feeling accomplished and in awe of nature’s captivating views. *cues Miley Cyrus it’s all about the climb*
